Update 12.7.13
Just a quick update on things… 🙂

Winter has arrived!

Denver is digging it, I however now have frozen water pipes to fix 🙂

This weekend has been an indoor weekend, James bought some fabric to learn how to sew, he’s going to start by making MiniMiller a teddy bear!

I made some thicker curtains, I sort of figured I would need to but with the single digits creeping in you could stand in the middle of the living room and feel the cold radiating in from both sides through the windows. I cut out and started sewing Friday night and finished up this afternoon

A grand total of 14 curtains

It was rather convenient, I had almost EXACTLY the amount of fabric I needed, to the inch from what was left over of the stuff I bought to refinish the couch I previously had, minus Denvers dog bed that I already made from it.

These work WAY better, they make a much tighter seal and keep a lot more cold out.

I made new door covers too

My little Galileo thermometer hasn’t been floating any bubbles for at least a week (it’s been cold), after the three big windows wer covered it wa already registering heat (original curtains here)

And new ones

It is much darker in here during the day with the shades closed, this could be a good thing in case I need to catch some sleep after MiniMiller comes along and I need to catch some shut eye during the day hours. It’s great for making a movie night too! (don’t mind the mess, there is a lot of crap and presents on the counter – out of Denny’s reach for now)

I don’t think they look too bad! I was worried they would make the place feel ‘dirty’ cause they are brown instead of the clean white look, I think it makes it ‘feel’ a lot warmer though

The bedroom shades are a tad small, I can’t figure out how I measured thos wrong, should still be better though 🙂

Spot the Great Dane sinking into the messy bed…

na-na

na-na

na-na-na-na-NA (Jaws sounds!)

He naps all day and then tries to play every night around 2-4am…

but at 4pm he’s dead to the world…

He’s getting neutered in th moring, he’s not very excited and I am getting a little nervous for him! I’ve never ben nervous for a dog like that before, I hope he’s ok and well looked after!

He is 7 months, I will get his weight tomorrow but hes about 32 inches at his shoulder, he’s got a little bit more to grow upward and then mostly just filling out.

I think he’s right around 100#, we will see how close I am tomorrow

And his alien eyes

I never showed his food dishes either, I changed out his old deformed cut up Amazon box that he had been using for a ‘real’ set of elevated food bowls, he’s nervous for it every morning, he’s not trusting of it, its kind of hilarious, he begrudgingly uses it though 🙂

Today I went to the art co-op with Becca and we saw these leaves, I think they are SO cool, I took some pictures 🙂 this one was about 18″-20″ across

This on is a tad smaller but a very cool color, they even look like they have water collecting in them, I thought they were so neat!

And it was tim to start in on making some of those freezer meals for later, I found some recipes and a very convienient place to set my laptop for reading those recipes, it’s up on the shelf and out of the way from any spillage but right at eye level for reading, I’m pretty spoiled in my tiny house 🙂

So my first cook is just some veggie/rice soup. My boss and his wife gave me an entire Thanksgiving dinner again this year, including the turkey and a bottle of wine that taunts me every day 🙂 I used some of the veggies and made this delicious soup!

Just veggies and rice then thickened, it’s really hearty

Turned out actually pretty good, I’ve never been good at soups but I got at least four freezer meals out of it too! MMMM
Hey Macy,
I like the new curtains. I do have a recommendation, if it seems like it’s still getting cold in there. There are insulated type fabrics that you can use, or even batting, that you can sew to make insulated curtains out of your winter ones. Then, you can pick another fabric and sew it on the window side that faces out and there you have it. Much warmer!
Denny is a handsome dog. He’s just such a beautiful color! My own dog Hank, then I’ve written to you about before, is not, repeat NOT an indoor dog. And with him being white, oh my gosh! But he loves his huge outdoor run, and mostly stays clean, and is really happy. I have an indoor cats to snuggle with me and help keep me warm. I bet that Danny really helps you on those cold winter nights!

Hi again! 🙂 I had not even considered that with the curtains, I will certainly be adding more r-value to them if needed, honestly these new ones have done a heck of a job, they keep it nice and warm, I know this winter is going to get colder before it gets warmer though! 🙂
I just went to a dog play group and there was a white dog there, after I came home I was reminded of why I wanted a grey dog so much, he matches everything I wear, I’ve been picking white hairs out of EVERYTHING! 🙂 Denny is definitely a nice little space heater 🙂
