Update 4.1.13
Well, I have a quick update! Little by little day by day I make small steps forward. It sure feels nice to be working again! It does feel like everything takes me three times as long as it would take a professional, I do the job, I mess up the job, I UN-DO the job and then I RE-do the job… it IS quite the learning experience! Anyhow, there is progress, here are some pictures!

I FINALLY got the dresser in, I had to trim the sides and sand it down and then beat it into place, and to raise it up to level it... it was a chore, but it's done and it looks good!

Time to stain the counter, this is the reclaimed hardwood floor that Stacey found

Each of these is 3 inches wide, makes for a big kitchen counter! 🙂

the little pieces go behind the stove.

It looks darker than I expected and wanted really but the good news is that a few days later it has really lightened up a lot, it's more in line with the tone I want 🙂

Getting it all ready and squared up!

plumb!

Ta-da! I haven't stuck the pieces in yet so they aren't saying in all by themselves but you get the idea, the wood will start at the floor and wrap up and across the counter. If you notice I even have the sink in there 🙂 It's just set, not really 'in' but it fits and looks good.

And a night shot, I still have a light out that I need to fix...

Pretty soon there will be a barn door hanging on that little piece of wall there.

I did run into a little snag... I originally measured the sizes for the cabinets and then realized I needed to move one of my waer lines 2 inches, then built the cabinets and found out I didn't have to move it, I thought 'cool!'

turns out I made the cabinet two inches too big... bummer, had to cut it down. I used those little pieces to hold the frame together.

Dad cut the hole so I didn't nip the water line, since it's in the floor I would have been screwed if I nicked it!

And ts back, snug as a bug in a rug!

You can see I stained the loft wood as well, again, it seems REALLY dark, I am hopeful it lighten up in the next few days.

and the first coat of paint on the dresser cabinets.

The steps! dark, huh? 🙂

and the loft, I need to put a couple rows back up that I removed to stain so I didnt mess up the walls but that's the color!
Macy, love your attention to detail, and the dialog you have as you progress, it makes the ‘observer’ feel part of your process. Your project is coming along nicely.
Thanks!
Hi, Macy! I don’t think the wood is too dark, I think it looks really gorgeous. It has a nice contrast with the white.
Well thank you Rebecca! much appreciated 🙂
It looks great! Love the kitchen – with the counter, the sink, and the lights in place it’s looking really good!
Thanks Cheryl! 🙂
