I Made More Toys!July 10, 2014Macy M10 comments6996 views I went to the store on the mission of making toy blocks! I went and looked for blocks and they wanted 3.50 for two plain ole wood blocks... so I went to the Home Depot and got a 2x2 stick of Poplar (a haardish wood that can take a beating), 30 inches long and decided to put the chop saw to work again...For 5.50 I got 18 blocks, take that craft store (insert Hobby Lobby joke here)! I also got a ball for Hazel to play with, which lasted a grand total of... maybe 6 minutes, Balls are Denvers favorite thing... Baby and me 'class' said th books, balls and blocks are the best toys for babies... Hazel agrees. Well, she doesn't know about these 'ball' things, Denver never learned to share... I picked up some food coloring and game on!Since I had so many I did two sets so I could give some to Hazels friend Harland.Hazel helped the whole time! She sat there fascinated while I sanded the edges. Then we soaked them in food coloringmore colorsAnd more! And the end toys, I am waiting for them to dry out really well and then I will be sealing them with a food grade, natural sealer, the same stuff you use on cutting boards! I think they will be a hit just as soon as she figures out her hands... Oh, that’s a great project. My brother-in-law still has the wooden blocks his grandmother made for his own father. She hand-painted them all. And they were used by my niece, and will keep being handed down. Reply
What an awesome project and much safer than what ever crazy paint those other blocks are covered in. Hazel is a lucky girl! Reply
Thanks! Denver got a red one before I could seal it, I thought he was bleeding… he’s just a thief! 🙂 Reply
