Getting things ready with a good cleaning. I used soap and water, then lime-a-way. the box said to sand with 400-600 grit sandpaper to get asurface paint would stick to… I started this but it actually made my tiles smoother since they kind of had a rough surface anyway, the paint is intended for the smooth subway tiles too… so I skipped that on the rest of the shower.

  1. if you ever find yourself in this situation again, i highly recommend vinegar to cut the shine on the tiles and help prep it for paint. really cheap and no need to rinse, just dry. also, use Kilz as a primer under the paint; great coverage so fewer topcoats needed. also mold and mildew resistant which is a great plus. looks good . . .
