Newest house design

The highlight of our week really is Sunday afternoon when we spend a couple hours at a coffee shop on our house design. This week we put some focus on site design. James has also done a whole lot of work figuring out the best program to draw our plans in. We started in Sketchup before he thought Chief Architect might work out better. He drew it all up there and then decided Revit (our actual comfort zone) would be better… it’s fun to be playing around again in some familiar softwares!
Right now the houses living space is 1,300 sf and there is 600 sf of unfinished basement. The basement is necessary not just because we’re building into a hillside, it’s where we can keep 6,000 gallons of water storage as well as all of our solar equipment. It’s definitely bigger than we intend but we’re in the flex stage of our figuring it out. We’re adding in all of the things before we peel it back a bit. My favorite add on is the greenhouse/sun room that we have added off the kitchen. I want a space to grow some yummy veggies and herbs year round.
Since we added that little space, we started thinking of how cool it would be to have a little sitting loft space to take in the view above the kitchen and adding a little patio perch space up there. The higher you get the better the views are. It’s still too early to tell what will stick for the actual design but I do like how it’s coming together.

Hazel has been SO full of questions as they watch us work through this process. She has run the gamut of frustrated it’s not just done yet to curious about each step in the process. She’s drawing and re drawing her room over and over again.
Miles is just afraid he’s going to feel too far from everyone. We but his room right in the middle of the place which makes him feel better.

Miles is starting soccer, the first team sport either of our children have been willing to play. He’s in mostly just because I signed his dad up to be the coach, too. They are going to have loads of fun together when the season starts.
This weekend we spend many, many hours spring cleaning this old tiny house. I swear it took me less than an hour to deep clean pre-kid. Now, I feel like I could use some more days to work at it. Still, it’s way lighter and brighter than it was on Friday! Yay for that!
I hope you’ve had a great weekend!
