Another Reason You Shouldn’t Work in Flip-Flops
This post could be considered a little gross… heads up!
I sealed up the cracks in the TPO roofing tonight but unfortunately didn’t get much else done on the house, I DID have a little farm adventure though that was fun :). Here are some pictures.
I went through each of the seams with soapy water, there has been a lot of dirt over the last few weeks...
This is one of the seams after it was painted with the elastomeric sealer. It's tough to make out the seam in the picture. Overall Im happy with how it sealed up, where the TPO turns the corner I think I am going to tape it and then put on another coat of elastomeric though, it seems like the TPO couldn't make a tight enough turn so there is an air space, even though its going to be caulked and then covered with a 2x4 (for the trellis) I want to make sure it gets a good seal.
I did it a little backward but I got a boot on the roof vent, which I am keeping on the roof despite some suggestions to change it. If nothing else I will document my failures ;-), I think I'll be ok though, Ive got a good seal on it!
Put the first coat of elastomeric on the vent, seals up nice!
I just wouldn't be me if I wasn't a klutz! I spilled some elastomeric, at 30 bucks a gallon this didn't make me happy but I think I'll have plenty left to finish my roof.
It could use a good scrub down all over but the roof is sealed, needs to be trimmed and the trellis installed but it's done! 🙂
That's it! My neighbor, Eve, think's it's going to be 'awesome'! She told me that her little brother made a model of my tiny house out of legos, I'm going to try to get a picture, that's just awesome! I remember being their age and doing the same stuff, I am happy to be able to inspire some kiddos!
Another reason to not work in flip flops... that's cow poo... and mud. We (the neighbor, Adam, who built the house out of legos) found a stray cow (calf). I had a mini adventure and got to call upon my ranching skills again! Was fun but not suggested with flip flops 🙂
So, dad uses gated irrigation, it floods the fields... when you have cows walking around in flooded fields it makes a soupy mess of mud and cow grossnes... We put the stray calf in the field with the other cows so she didn't get hit by a car and she went to the wrong side of the pasture! I walked her to the correct side... through the soupy mess. fortunately she only made me run through it a couple times... it's bad enough to walk through that stuff but flip flops flipped it all up the back of my legs... gross!
She's lucky she's cute! I was able to hand feed her hay by the end so I guess she wasn't that mad at me :). I named her Kitty, I'm not sure why, it just kind of happened.
Her owner came to pick her up and it was another mushy mess... at least that time it wasn't just me traipsing through. We ended up just walking her back to her house 🙂

The other neighbors, Eve's family, brought us fresh cinnamon rolls as a thank you, I'm not sure what for but they were amazing! The perfect end to an adventure filled day! Eve also pointed out something about our little neighborhood that's cool, we can go weeks without seeing each other and then somethign happens like a stray cow and we all get involved to fix it and have fun together, it's totally true! That's cool about a more rural area... lot's or privacy but there are people (at least where we are) that come out of the woodwork to help each other out! I like it!
This is just to show how cool James is... and also another use for roofing glue! James made a 3D printer (I know, cool, right?) this is a design he made on it and it glows in the dark. I used roofing glue to put it on my rear-view mirror, I can't wait for some night driving!
