Tiny House Update 9.8.13
I was able to get some work done on my house this last weekend! Checked a couple things off. I am trying to hurry and tie up all the loose ends by the time the film crew comes from London, I want to do a quick update on the steps I built and then I have a punch-list of sorts to get done in the next two weeks at which point I have hired a photographer to come take some images for a friends project! I want to get some pretty documentation before things turn into a disaster zone too! 🙂 Without further ado, here is my update!

I put the UV protectant covers on my wheels over the weekend, these came in a few weeks ago but I have been a little slow to get them applied, It's a good idea to protect your tires if you are going to be sitting still a while. I know a lot of people actually take the wheels off and wrap them up, I opted to just buy some covers though.

The back side, you can also see my morning glories going up up up!

I purchased the materials to build my front door steps as well, it sure is nice to have a front door now! The material list consists of 7 2x6's, 6 2x4s and 4 2x8s.

And this one short board is the total scrap from the project, less than 1 foot of lumber 🙂 I like to build as modular as possible!

Started by cutting the sides to length, the sides are made up of the 2x8s

Then halved all the 8' lumber to make the 4' planks that are the total width of the steps, Denver likes to help.

But then he found a 'stick' which to him means a small log...

He's teething so he is chewing a lot on his rawhides and sticks, nothing else though 🙂 So far...

Then we cut some 2x4s to length to tie the 2x8s together and made each side support

Here James is tieing the two supports together with some of the planks

The back is also strapped together with a tie so that it doesnt splay out at the bottom

Another shot of this

Then we started laying out the planks, 2x6s for the horizantals and 2x4s for the verticals

Mid way

I could have saved money and material to design it a different way but I like the closed off look and Denny likes to hang out under these, its a faux dog house 🙂

And the finished project, yet to be stained to match.

It is really nice to be able to use my steps!

Overall, ignore the junk all over, it's a work in progress

Side shot

I could also turn these to face the street but I opted to have them come straight off. There is flexibility built in though if I ever need it at a different location.

Here is my month three preggo shot, Denny is going to make an appearance in all of them since he is growing too!

And my pretty flowers on the side of my house

Oh, also, I installed my other outdoor light! Not installed here

now installed, and it works! (always a relief!) 🙂

Bam! So, from here we get into my punch-list of things to complete in the next two weeks.

I need to put another coat of paint on all my trim work, it got a little smudged with the staining.

The corners have expanded also and need a little help, i will be filling these prior to painting.

The paint needs scraped off the front door where I couldn't reach before, easy one!

There is a little tiny piece of TPO that is hanging off the corner of my house that drives me mad, I need to get a ladder and cut it down!

The electrical closet doors need mounted

and stained to match

the new front steps (and back steps) need stained

This little piece of corner area needs to try to come together better, the wood has warped funny.

The front area by the crank needs to be finished.

The trellis needs to be completed, or at least extended as the morning glories are reaching further.

I did a really crappy job on this trim part, it was pitch black outside and apperently that makes things hard to measure, this needs fixed though.

The shower needs cleaned so i can install the grey-water system that is ready to go

The toilet area needs to be winterized and concealed, This one will be a little later but somethign to do before November for sure!

This back area needs weed-eated and smoothed out, it's kind of a mess back there (the rest of the weeds need pulled as well.

The propane tanks will be come part of the skirted area as well and be concealed.

The back steps need stained and sealed to match

The outlet for the water heater needs trimmed

The lights each need trimmed

The porch outlet needs trimmed

The kitchen cabinets are warping a little ( I used way too thin of wood... I would use different next time!) This needs fixed.

The dog food drawer needs touched up, it had a little accident in painting process 🙂

The pantry door has been warped from day one, I hoped it would straighten out but no luck, it needs help!

My microwave needs to actually sit on it's shelf, not have the shelf sit on it... the chord is literally 3 inches too short to reach the outlet so I need an extension chord.

The shower needs cleaned, still, I have been avoiding this!

It's pretty bad though, this needs done before I can hook up the grey water because I will be using an acid to clean it, that wouldn't be very 'grey'.

The wood slats need to be drilled to accommodate the lag bolt fasteners

Paint smudges need cleaned off of the metal pieces

a trim piece needs to be added to the shower surround to clean up the edges where I didn't think through adding a metal edge.

The media center door needs to be attached, i have been debating making this a door or just a magnetic panel since there may be furniture against it, i think a magnetic panel is winning.
I think I see a deck in your future with a retractable awning.
The original plan is is a fold down deck along the side of the house, I think that will still happen at some point down the line 🙂 It sure would be nice!
Macy,it’s looking great,my friend, and the deck idea sounds great IMO too! 😀
Just a quick note,I’m sorry I had technical issues contributing to the chat this week,I was really bummed/had been looking forward to it. As you may notice (for reasons in an email there yuo may or may not have seen),we’ve deleted all of our FB accounts (as a family),so I won’ tsee you there, but will continue to enjoy and support your blog whole heartedly,my friend 🙂 TTYL and have a wonderful week 😀

Macy, Denny looks like a twin for my dog Brock who passed away two years ago. He was such a big baby. but scared people because of his size…..My Boy…. i loved him so much and miss him everyday.
Awww, that’s sad, I’m sorry to hear about Brock, I will be heartbroken when it’s Denny’s time. Hopefully I have a while!
I like the enclosed steps – around here (NM) I would worry about rattlesnakes cooling off under the steps and having direct access to my feet/ankles!
