re-NEW-ed Dress
I need a holiday dress. I hate shopping. I had a dress that was perfectly fine but the color made me look like I was walking around naked… I killed two birds with one stone and got rid of THAT dress and made it into a new holiday dress. I have never dyed anything before that wasn’t for some sort of costume so I was a little nervous to do something that required a little more care. Here is how I did it! (It was fun)

Our starting point.

I decided it would work better to remove as much color as I could to start.

In goes the dress to the simmering RIT color remover.

You could almost instantly see the color fade.

You can see the color change from the elastic band, it never lost it's color.

Getting pretty pale.

I left it in right at 15 minutes

Getting the red ready in the simmering water while I wash out all the color remover.

It was pretty gnarly.

The elastic didn't discolor.

Dunking it!

It was cool to watch it soak up the dress!

I let it simmer for another 15 minutes of so.

I ran it through the wash after rinsing it thoroughly to get the excess color out

It dried a lot lighter, I like it way better!

It still works ;-), not that I thought it wouldn't. It was surprisingly easy and turned out really great!
That looks great! Wow, I’m inspired now to re-color some of my own clothes.
That’s awesome, I’m glad you liked it! I think I definitely have some more clothes I will be reviving myself! 🙂
Wow that turned out great!! I’m going to keep that in mind as I consider what I can re-do in my own wardrobe.
I’m glad you like it Abbie 🙂
love it! looks awesome on you! I have dyed some fabric and only read afterward that it was advised to boil the item prior to dying… my dye has not held very well, and they say this would be improved by boiling out any oils / dirt first… next dye job! good job on yours!
