Update 10.11.12
Here is a quick update, I will let the pictures explain. ย I had hoped I would have gotten a little more done , I won’t be able to work on it this weekend because I will be partaking in the awesome McLaughlin Halloween family tradition in Washington.
I get to meet Christopher and Merete in the morning and take part in the American Planning Associations Planning Conference and be a part of a panel which gets to preview Chris and Merete’s film Tiny: A story of Living Small before anyone else, neener-neener! ๐ Then I get to be a part of a panel to talk about tiny houses, wish me luck, I will update as soon as I know what it’s all about :). ย I can hardly wait!
I hope everyone is having an amazing week, here are some pictures:

James has the crazy eye! We got the porch window trimmed out with some 2x6s. I like the way it turned out, I think eventually I will make some small planters to fit in the opening and grow my herbs just outside my kitchen.

I couldn't get any leverage on some spots, James is way stronger, that comes in handy!

The insulation is 98% done! There is one cavity space that I am going to put batt insulation in just because there is some vent pipes for the plumbing, it is easier to work around than the rigid insulation.

Ceiling shot. The insulation works amazingly well, I can certainly tell that it's all in now verses having just half in. I have one light bulb and a few bodies in the house and it warms up fast! I have sort of been wondering if just the radiant floor heat would be enough to heat my space but I am getting more and more comfortable that that will be just fine! Possibly even over-kill. I think a computer, some lights and my body will be pretty close to all I need!

That table shown is in the same location as my counter will be, it is 8 feet long, my counter will be 4 feet longer. That counter is 24 inches deep, I am thinking I may only make mine 20 inches deep, not that I NEED to make them that skinny, I am just balancing the width of the walk-way with the counter, i think that will be a good balance, it's all going to be custom anyhow...
![Dad came and hung out with James and I as we [mostly he] finished up the insulation in the roof.](https://sp-ao.shortpixel.ai/client/to_auto,q_glossy,ret_img,w_578,h_1024/https://minimotives.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/6.jpg)
Dad came and hung out with James and I as we [mostly he] finished up the insulation in the roof.

Here is the tile sample of the tile I am planning on using. This tile is at about 2 bucks a square foot which isnt too bad... I think I will run to some other places and price out a few other options, this is the basic look I will be going with though I think. If I were to get this tile I think I would even do my shower out of the same stuff, just cut it down to a smaller size, I think that could look pretty slick ๐

I got all the trim up on this side, sort of... I messed up cutting two pieces, it was late and getting dark... I was trying to hurry and get them all cut but I apparently subtracted an inch and then some from two of my measurements ๐

Straight on shot.

There was a pretty sunset tonight even though it is still pretty smokey out.

no longer a board short! I am now playing with a full deck ๐

I am still so happy to see my creation coming to life, it even looks like my preliminary sketches, that is SUPER gratifying!

The opening all trimmed out. I wasn't the best at cutting the angles but I can caulk it and it will look great. I will be painting this trim black too!

I like the feeling on the patio, its a big enough size for a comfy piece of furniture and it 'feels' covered and protected while being an outdoor space still. It's just how I was hoping it would be!

View in from the edge of the patio.

Again, this is an 8 foot long counter, mine is 12 foot. I am excited for counter-space, this is definitely a bigger kitchen than my last rental. I have been getting excited to have dinner parties and invite friends and family over for food. I wanna cook again, it's not that I CAN'T cook right now but it will be nice to have 'my' space again and use my things and make a mess of MY area :).

My living room is exactly 75 square feet (7'-6" wide by 10'-0" long) ... it feels spacious though.

This is the living room from the other side, right where my stairs will be located

Here is my shower space. My shower is 36"x34" if I remember correctly. The bathroom sink will be located right against that little wing wall you see in the picture. The water filter for the whole house will be located in a cabinet below the sink and is already installed as you can see!

The space closest to the right is my pantry space. There will be storage space below for Denver's food (my yet to be a 'glimmer in his mom's eye' Great Dane, I picked his name already while on my trip to Denver earlier this year. For as long as I can remember I have wanted a Dane, I have fallen in love with Denver-I don't think I will end up moving there but I like it-it also happens to be the place that James and I first told each other we love us ;-). I have been talking to a breeder from north Idaho who has since moved to Denver, the name seems uber fitting, I have dibs on the first blue boy born, with any luck I will have a Dane puppy around February ๐ ). The space up above will be for MY food, there is oodles of storage room for hopefully picking up the skill of canning (My brother-in-should-be-law can teach me a few things, that's exciting!). the space just next to that where the plastic bucket is is where my fridge will go with a microwave on top of it. then there will be a sliding barn door for the bathroom next to that.

I am so glad to be done cutting insulation. James was a BIG help. I don't think I had as tough of a go as some others had, it was real handy to have a table-saw.

I can't believe I still haven't spent the night in here yet, it is definitely campable, very comfortable. I am holding off though, my bed is comfy :). This guy has taken up residence though so at least SOMEONE is enjoying my house.

I caulked up all the exterior edging I had done tonight too. Water is going to be running off the roof and down the side, I don't want it running behind these boards.

This is before caulking... I needed to fill the gap.

this would be that spot that I mentioned cutting the boards too short... I will have to grab another 2x2 and re-cut these pieces, that's ok... minor mistake!

Slightly better, still not my best work! I am going to caulk the corners, this one should be fine still, this side will be completely covered anyway with ivy, I'm not going to worry too much about the topical stuff... I started on this side to practice, I have learned stuff for the other trim, like the corners of the window have a funky plastic weld that makes it weird to trim around. I am going to have to cut the other trim about a quarter inch bigger than the opening and then just caulk the gap. More pictures to come soon.

Third try is better, still not great but I'm learning! ๐
Just curious why no spray foam around the foam board insulation?
It would help increase the effectiveness of the foam board insulation. It would also stop warm moist air from reaching the exterior sheeting and creating condensation on it.
I will spray foam the gaps behind the switches and any other sizable gaps either just before dry-walling or just after if I can fit the nozzle in there. It is fairly well sealed as it is, but I will definitely fill the majority of the gaps still, I don’t want the foam to expand out too far where it will be difficult to drywall over it (hence waiting until after with the switches. There are also a few spots I have opted to go with batt insulation, like around the vent pipes so I don’t have to cut up the foam, it’s sort of a bear to do that. You are absolutely right about the condensation issue, I feel confident I will be A-O-K there. Thanks so much for the comment!
Macy:
Great job on the panel yesterday and so nice to meet you. Love to stop by and see the progress sometime before the snow flies, and yes to the podcast. You have my card, so feel free to shoot me an email.

Hi Erik!
Thanks for visiting my site! It was a pleasure to sit on the panel with you yesterday, you are a great asset to have around! I really appreciated your incites and views, it was refreshing to hear! It sounds like the podcast schedule is filled up through the end of the year (tinyrevolution.us is who actually puts together the podcasts but I try to help out and suggest great guests as much as I can) but I will definitely do what I can to get you online, I think a lot of people could really benefit from your perspectives.
You are more than welcome to swing by at any point to check out the house, feel free to shoot me an email at mizacy@gmail.com and we can figure out a time that works, I am genrally out there most evenings. Right now is a great time to see the house, you can see all the structure, from this point forward finishes are going up which is also exciting! Thanks again!
