Update 5.5.13

Here is this days progress. I started the pallet siding. Here are some pictures:

: The stove being reassembled, it looks gret, I can’t believe how much better it looks

: Procrastinating the siding I decided instead to plan the seedlings I started a few weeks back

: Here they are, various flowery vines that should look pretty on the side of my house

: With no more options I have to put siding up… I prepped a lot of pallet wood previously but I still had to do some, here I am planing down the wood in order to stain it in the end, one pass through

: and final fourth pass, every board has to go through about this many passes or more. Pallet wood is mostly free but ridiculously labor intensive

: I got a few rows up and needed a break.

: I was thinking about doing mitered edges at the corners but because they are all slightly different thicknesses and wood tends to shrink at different rates I thought it would be better to do finger joints like this

: This is the reason to wear a mask when cutting this stuff, these pallets are all used and coated in various amounts of whatever, in an effort to not breath this cocktail of chemicals in you really should wear a mask, You don’t want this stuff floating around in you. I am using all of the pallet wood outdoors as well, you wouldn’t really want it installed indoors for the same reasons. I think for my rain-screen wall it will be ok.

: this is the trellis which is rather saggy now that it has warmed up a bit. Not a huge fan but it should work and Im just going to cut it down at the end of the season.

: The water heater JUST BARELY fits. I have like an 1/8 of an inch to spare with the vent

: I cut some boards for the bathroom sink, not complete but planed and ready to go.

: I cleaned up and showered then got ready to head out and came upon 9 people hanging out on my tiny house porch, my folks were showing their friends, Tobi also showed up, she seems to like the patio

Lots of odds and ends today… really avoiding that siding … Soon.

: My washer and dryer arrived from New York… the truck was pretty much empty, seems really inefficient…

: It fits all stretched out, it desperately needs cleaned but is actually fairly comfy. The is about and inch to spare.

: I sealed the grout under the washer/dryer adn fridge so I can get them into place, I still have the rest of the floor to seal.

: And once I got all these shiny new appliances in I realized how ‘off-white’ the oven was

: this was supposed to be a side by side comparison but it’s touch to tell, the image does it no justice, these are way different colors

: We went through and painted the trim and touched up the walls from the grout and such

: I also painted the edge of the sink, it is an undermount sink so the enamel didnt wrap the edge, I didn’t want it to rust so I painted it with the same appliance paint

: I even repainted all the chrome pieces, i have to say the chrome paint was pretty awesome.

: I was a messy painter, I think I dropped as much on the floor as the wall, but it peeled up no proplems, all is well

I apparently have insomnia now too, I have no idea why, I’m exhausted! Anyway, here is an update of todays after work happenings

: All clean and shiny, I sort of want to put a gloss sealer on this so its not just pretty when wet… I would think those sealers would show a traffic pattern though, anyone know that for sure?

: I even had some time to sit and think… I placed an offer on a lot/house downtown… I am learning about all sorts of real estate crap all over again. This one is a negotiating thing and something I am vvery willing and able to walk away from if it calls for it but also something that will accommodate my house well and potentially provide income from a rental with a little work . Wish me luck, while I am not emotionally invested it would be super cool :)

Like most other aspects of this house I have completely underestimated grout. Halfway done with the shower… that’s all for tonight .

This is me.

What a productive weekend.. not doing what was slated to be done but something much better! James came over and helped most of the weekend, we got the floor grouted and the shower tiled, I will try to grout the shower tomorrow. I am nearing completion on the inside, exciting! My washer dryer unit is getting delivered this week, I will fit it and then secure the kitchen counter. After that and the grout in the shower dad and I can get all the plumbing in order and it is officially livable! I still have a bookshelf to build and odds and ends like touch-up paint but its pretty darn close! I also have an actual plan in place for my barn door. So, perhaps by Tuesday or wednesday my focus will shift from the interior to the exterior and work on the siding will begin! Next weekend I should be able to get a good start on that but definitely not get it done… I still have a lot of prep work to do on the pallet wood to get to the point I can hang the siding… baby steps though. One thing I have learned is that the little steps DO add up… none of these pieces of this house have been mind-boggling, it just takes time. And time sent on the couch is not nearly as valuable as time spent building!

I hope you have all had a great and beautiful weekend, it was an awesome weekend here, I am showered and clean from the weekend of grunge and my sheets should be dinging soon, I am ready for bed!

: My little shampoo and soap nooks. I made th bottom edge drip out to the surface, there is no bullnose tile in this type so that grey line at the edge will just be shapried black to match :)

: And also, my foot is still broken… I went to the dr. because its been bugging me, not bugging me i guess but it just doesn’t feel right still… He sent me to get an MRI to see what was up… turns out it hasn’t healed yet from my fall off the roof nearly 8 months ago… 8 months later I STILL have a broken foot… dumb. We are going to try a magnet thing for a month or so and if that doesn’t work there may be a surgery in my future…
